    mother

I cannot begin to put into words how amazing Mother is. The story, cinematography, and performances were all on a level I haven’t fully seen in dramas before, and my heartstrings snapped every episode. It isn’t a faced paced drama by any means, and it’s a slow burn drama of the highest degree, but it WORKED.

I thought I would lose the emotional connection I felt since I took a large break before watching the final episode (marathoned the first 10 episodes and waited for the last to get subbed), but that wasn’t the case. I was fine throughout most of the finale, but the last scene had me CRYING. And then deep down I knew this was the best drama I’d ever watched.

I have to give a special mention to Mana Ashida — she’s only six years old (five at the time of filming), but her acting was exceptional! She did win an award for her work, and for that I’m very glad. Hopefully she’ll do some great things in the future.

As if it wasn’t already obvious, I really do recommend this as a must watch. Even if you didn’t cry like I did, it’s a touching and hopefully drama that is ultimately about the relationship between mothers, sisters, daughters… and one that is INCREDIBLY well written. I’m sure you’ll feel something in there! If not, you’ve got a cold, cold heart (just kidding).

  • “Let’s be happy.”

You may or may not have noticed that my “watch list” has disappeared! I’ve moved it to ; pretty fancy, huh? I’m also, slowly but surely, chiseling away at the 50 movies challenge in this year… hopefully I can at least break 30 by the end of this summer. Anyhoo…

Linda/Tamayama Tetsuji was EXCELLENT in the fifth episode (and this isn’t me being a biased fan, ha ha ha).

First things first: what’s so great about Shinohara Ryoko?

  • ALRIGHT!!

(Long time no see?) Finished BOSS early this morning… I don’t know what I’m going to watch now! I wanted to start Byakuyako, but something tells me I need to watch PRIDE very soon. Yeaaaaaahhh!

Major spoilers. This is more like an unnecessarily long recap of the last two episodes than anything…

  • JIN (Episode 2-3)

I LOVE THIS PART (very end, episode three). Osawa Takao actually has really nice teeth haha. And can you believe this is his first drama in three years? He’s been doing movies, sure, but what a way to make a comeback. In a great drama such as this (so far, so far).

I don’t consider this a recap because it sucks and I didn’t discuss a lot of dialogue. I’m not sure where I went with this post, but the point of it all is: WATCH THIS DRAMA. It is probably the best drama to have come out of Japan all year. I dabbled in a couple dramas each season & none of them, except for Meintantei no Okite, were as enjoyable as this one turned out to be. Solid acting all around, good story from what I can tell so far …

It’s obvious that I got very lazy towards the end here … I’m definitely doing brief brief summaries from now on

Let me start out by saying that THIS DRAMA MAKES ME SO HAPPY. After watching a string of dramas that were a bit weak (but still crazy fun to watch), this happened and I am glad. Meitantei no Okite is outrageous in a good way. It’s not too over the top like Atashinchi no Danshi, but has just the right amount to keep me laughing through the entire episode. And it doesn’t hurt that Matsuda Shota is killing me with his acting. He’s such a dork, it’s adorable. ❤ And I have to give Kashii Yu (who’s annoyingly gorgeous) and Kimura Yuichi credit for holding their own, too. It turns out that MNO was based on a book by Keigo Higashino, who also wrote the one Ryuusei no Kizuna was based off of. I actually find this a lot more engaging than MR. BRAIN (both are of the mystery/”comedy” genre), to be quite honest… so if you’re looking for a drama to make you laugh & a good mystery, do watch this one! This post doesn’t really do it any justice…

    IKENAI TAIYOU!

Mei-chan no Shitsuji is the type of drama I can really get attached to. I’m really loving the supporting cast so far; a well put together cast is pretty much destined for greatness (Hanazakari no Kimitachi e … and something like My Boss My Hero, I guess).

There are a couple things I’ve noticed with this drama, though:
