Would you look at that, two dramas this season dealing with affairs! Riveting.

Finished SPEC. The “twist” in the final episode…. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

  • The Curious Case of Amemiya Hotaru

Oh man. Takano Seiichi and Hotaru are cute. The dynamic in Hotaru no Hikari 2 is a little different this time around since they’re on the road to something much more (marriage), and there are so many choice moments!

  • I CANNOT

    himitsu-0

I cannot begin to describe to you how awkward Himitsu can be. Shit summary: the family consists of Heisuke (dad), Naoko (mom) and Monami (daughter). Monami and Naoko take a bus to go visit their in-laws when they’re involved in a terrible accident. Monami survives but her soul has left her. As a result, Naoko’s soul is in her body.

DISTRESS. AWKWARDNESS. EXTREME DISCOMFORT. My friend, who is quite a few episodes ahead of me (I guess being Japanese and stuff gives her an advantage, lol…) told me that it gets even crazier.

    ok

    so

if Monami aka Naoko reaching her damn hand into Heisuke’s shirt while he was sleeping not bad enough…

    JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL

(You’re probably asking, why am I still watching this drama? Well, I can’t help that I like the two leads and the original creator of the story — wait for it… it’s Keigo Higashino! — so I have no choice but to go on. It’s not like the drama is BAD, it’s just that the story makes me wtf with my entire body and soul that I really need to see how it all plays out. Really.)

  • A couple murders and a few tender scenes later…

Well, I’m halfway through Guilty [Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna], and what better way to celebrate the fact than with some old fashioned tl;dr?

  • “Daijoubu desu kaaaaaaa…”

Kyoko Odagiri is known as a showy, charismatic and popular psychic, though in reality she has no special powers. Instead, the unusual heroine gathers information through her own effort, then plays up the role of the psychic, willing to create any kind of lie if it will help save someone. Shosuke Tanihara (38) will play the mysterious Ichiro Taniguchi, who becomes Kyoko’s accomplice. (tokyograph)

The fall season has officially begun! Yessss!

Meiko Nogami (Miho Kanno) was a popular pet beauty expert, but at the age of 19 she was imprisoned falsely for the murders of her brother-in-law and nephew. 12 years later she is finally released from prison.

Meiko Nogami now brings unhappiness to those around her as she searches for the truth behind the murders. She reveals false accusations, shakes the foundations of their minds and eventually brings them to commit suicide as Meiko seeks out revenge.

A former detective (Hiroshi Tamaki), who had a bright future before accidentally causing the death of a fellow detective, crosses paths with Meiko. He senses something dangerous about the woman but also feels an attraction to her…

  • Mother

    mother

I cannot begin to put into words how amazing Mother is. The story, cinematography, and performances were all on a level I haven’t fully seen in dramas before, and my heartstrings snapped every episode. It isn’t a faced paced drama by any means, and it’s a slow burn drama of the highest degree, but it WORKED.

I thought I would lose the emotional connection I felt since I took a large break before watching the final episode (marathoned the first 10 episodes and waited for the last to get subbed), but that wasn’t the case. I was fine throughout most of the finale, but the last scene had me CRYING. And then deep down I knew this was the best drama I’d ever watched.

I have to give a special mention to Mana Ashida — she’s only six years old (five at the time of filming), but her acting was exceptional! She did win an award for her work, and for that I’m very glad. Hopefully she’ll do some great things in the future.

As if it wasn’t already obvious, I really do recommend this as a must watch. Even if you didn’t cry like I did, it’s a touching and hopefully drama that is ultimately about the relationship between mothers, sisters, daughters… and one that is INCREDIBLY well written. I’m sure you’ll feel something in there! If not, you’ve got a cold, cold heart (just kidding).

  • Scenery is everything.

The (primary) reason I want to visit Japan… is because of places like these:

Nobody To Watch Over Me (2009)

700 Days of Battle: Us versus the Police (2008)

    vlcsnap-2012-07-09-22h19m19s74

Gorgeous, right? I obviously want to go there and stuff my face, cross another continent off my list, shop, and do touristy things too, but… it’s kind of impressive to think that in a place where cityscapes come to mind, there’s so much of that. Green. Hopefully I can visit a couple people there and experience something like this soon. However, I

    • need a big kid job.
    • need to learn (more) Japanese.
    • NEED $$$$

    Until then!!
