Since I last talked about my adventures in gaming, I bought and finished Dual Destinies 2 Ace Attorney 6 – Spirit of Justice. Like Dual Destinies, it didn’t get interesting until the last two cases… which is unfortunate because I personally really loved the subject matter: birth secrets, JUSTICE, occultism… yaaas. The graphics were also more beautiful than I thought they could be and it almost makes me want a remake for the original trilogy… almost. And because I love the Ace Attorney series so much, I bought a Japanese 2DS just for Dai Gyakuten Saiban! When I beat it depends on my dedication to learning Japanese properly, but I hope to make it my summer project. I’d at least like to get it over with before Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 is released!

I also bought Pokemon Moon which remains unfinished. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute and fun but my interest just kind of petered out after a few weeks… because I bought a PS4! I’m currently “playing” Final Fantasy XV and having a fun time with it so far even though I’m SHIT at battles and feel like I only understand what’s happening 65% of the time. If you asked me what the story’s about I honestly couldn’t tell ya. 💁💁💁

Around the time I bought Pokemon and a PS4, Persona 5 was delayed from February to April. At first I was pissed (there goes my romantic Valentine’s Day plans!), but then I realized that this is the perfect opportunity for me to beat some CONSOLE games for once. The plan is to play through/finish FFXV all February long, finally (FINALLY) finish P4 in March, take spring break to play a bit of new Zelda, then drop everything for P5! I’M GONNA DO IT

And a fun story about the featured image (at PAX West 2016): (more…)

Given how slowly and how long it takes me to play games (ahem, Persona 4 — let me just say I’m at the HEAVEN stage now and I am very scared for what’s about to happen next), I don’t know how often I’ll make posts like this, but here’s what I’ve been playing! (Or was, I beat them already. Hah)

    Legend of Zelda: ALBW
    Animal Crossing (?!)
    Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies
    Story of Seasons
    Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire
Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright *
    999 *

    PlayStation
    Persona 4
    Ni no Kuni *
    Beyond: Two Souls *
    Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD *
    Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD *

    PC
    Saints Row IV
    Guacamelee
    Hatoful Boyfriend *

Starred games are the ones that I’ve purchased, but not yet started. As you can see, it’s out of control. I think the only game I’m close to finishing is Saints Row IV, since I was really into playing games on my shiny new build. Forever stuck at 73%! But Persona 4 is forever my highest of priorities! This will be the year I finish it, seriously.

I sort of want to do a blog challenge similar to what I did for dramas last year (which I am considering revisiting this year, maybe with new themes, maybe not…), but games are time consuming… we’ll see!

    EDIT: 75% done with Dual Destinies! It’s a process…

I’ve been really excited about this shiny Mega Gengar event, despite already having a Gengar of my own. And I love my lvl. 66 Gengar! It’s like a demon rising from the bowels of hell just to lay waste to your lineup. As the date for the event got closer and I got really nervous about actually going in to a GameStop and asking for a code because I’m an adult.

Instead of going in the day of the release like a nerd, I went in the day after just to play it really cool. I didn’t want to seem too excited about this freebie, you know? So I walked in real cool (wore my sunglasses indoors and everything) and go, “So I heard somewhere that I could pick up a shiny Mega Gengar here… or something?” I was armed with a billion excuses/stories to explain why I came in, but the sales clerk just handed me the code and kindly explained how to get the mystery gift. K.

  • Don’t think… max out social links!

“Persona!” If you couldn’t tell by my tweets, I gave the game another crack after trying and failing to beat Shadow Mitsuo who, as far as I’m concerned, is an irrelevant flop. That boss battle gave me so much grief and I’m happy to see him gone — bye, Mitsuo! Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

A huge chunk of why I love this game is because of the ability to form bonds with others that affect what they’ll do for you in battle (e.g. “Yosuke will now die for you!”) and because my friends ingrained in me the habit of getting through dungeons quickly, I had ample time to relax. Soon realized I was being far too complacent about my progress in the game. There’s obviously a ticking calendar in this game, which means there will obviously be a point in which I can no longer level up my social links (side quests who??). For all I know this whole adventure could end in October, and here I am just loafing around in early September with only three social links maxed out. None of which are in the Investigation Team. CATCH ME WHEN I’M INEVITABLY FLOPPING IN THE FINAL BATTLE BECAUSE I HAVE NO MEANINGFUL FRIENDSHIPS

I had to be careful at this point, and I had to out-calendar the calendar! Cue: your girl taking a good hour and a half to figure out how to make color-coded and separate calendars for each character link. YES.

    Day view.

I plan on removing the dates for characters whose social links I’ve maxed out, but I have a lot of work to do. I barely just saw Naoto on the Midnight Channel, and if Shadow Mitsuo’s difficulty was any indication of how much harder this game is going to be… womp womp womp.

  • So triforce. Much gold. Wow.

In case you couldn’t already tell by some of my very vague tweets, I took the plunge and got a Nintendo 3DS XL. I originally intended to get a black/black 3DS (breaking my tradition of getting pink Nintendo handhelds), but how can you resist the matte gold/black?!

I’m still getting used to the controls and the weight (SO HEAVY), but the 3D is DAZZLING. Seriously. I mean… how you doin’ that? I do keep it off the majority of the time to save my eyes and conserve battery, though. And speaking of which, the battery life is a little disappointing considering how magical the DS Lite was in that regard, but not surprising since it comes with so much STUFF. My friends asked me what I did the first night I got it and I really didn’t have an answer for them because all I was doing was playing with the settings, lolz

So far I’m only playing “Pokemon Y” —X has the cooler Mononoke-esque legendary, but I took one for the team— because no one told me that 3DS games were so expensive, hahah. Thankfully I received a downloadable code for “Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds” as a part of the overall bundle to keep me busy for a while.

    13-2

It was specifically at 13:37, but anyway…

There are a lot of unfinished games on my backlog, but for the past two weeks I have been spending my time getting emotional over games that I’ve never even played. Allow me to elaborate:

One night I made the fatal mistake of going on a Wikipedia Adventure™ for Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2 because I heard that they were making yet another game in the series. It’s like, what went wrong in this game that they couldn’t resolve in the sequel, right? The story itself is very convoluted and irritating, and the most I got out of it was that Etro deserves one of those “you tried but please stop” gold star stickers. Still, XIII-2 was a complete mystery to me. I didn’t know how to pronounce l’Cie (apparently it’s [lə’siː] and not [ɛl’si]), and I was tired of reading about these games online, so I thought it would be best if quit this late-night madness and watch the ending on YouTube. Did I expect to get taken to a dreamworld of tragic? NOPE

  • I am thou, thou art I, blah blah arcanas

I’ve been playing Persona 4 (ペルソナ4) for the better half of the year, and it is an amazing RPG. A rural murder mystery — equal parts occultism and human psychology, with a generous helping of Japanese/Greek mythology, greeaaaaat dialogue (seriously, the localization is fantastic), and high school shenanigans. I love a lot of things about P4, but the most exciting about it is the almighty social link, which is an additional way for the player to strengthen personas. Oh my heck. Who knew establishing bonds and fostering friendships in a video game could be so stressful?

Going through and trying to max out social links is most fun when you have the input of your friends. Things finally came to a head when I maxed out Ozawa Yumi’s social link (of the sun arcana), and the results are* hilarious.

    * Guess which one we went with! HAH.

  • What is this monstrosity?!

    ds-ll

This is the new Nintendo DSi LL (large-large?) and it’s big. The screens are 4.25 inches (!!!) and could probably beat my measly pink DS Lite to a pulp. I don’t think I’d want one if it ever was released in the US, but imagine how EPIC games would be on those screens…

You can find more info at CNET.

  • Small TV. College life!

Yeaaahah, so I basically snuck my Nintendo GameCube with me on my way back to the dorms and I’ve been playing Tales of Symphonia. I’ve beaten this game twice — almost a third, but I forgot what was happening on my old file and started fresh yesterday — and it never gets old. I also brought my DS and beat Golden Sun and am in the middle of Golden Sun: The Lost Age, but I’ve been itching to play a console game. I treated myself to about three hours of game play today and it was very, very relaxing. 🙂 I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCHHH

Apparently there is a sequel, but I read the summary and I don’t know how I feel about it. It seems a little interesting, but for now I’m going to pretend it doesn’t exist. Haha.
