WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the first time Jung Kyeo-woon is not playing a total assface.* Like most people, I was afraid he’d be rehashing his character from Birth of a Beauty, but ‘tis not so. Unfortunately, Oh My Venus is not completely exciting and didn’t capture my heart the way I wanted to, which is bad news because I sense a mean angsty streak coming up and I’m not even loving the good times. I also want Shin Mina’s character to stop being saved. FOOL ME ONCE. FOOL ME TWICE. FOOL ME TH—just kidding, this is annoying, I don’t care!
Speaking of other Korean dramas: VERY THANKFUL that Answer Me 1988 is delaying their broadcast a week because it’s the perfect opportunity for me to catch up before the finale! Have not yet started Six Flying Dragons, but I feel like it’s a drama to watch not on my modest monitor, but on something a little more substantial…
Anyway, not really loving Bubblegum anymore. Not bad by any means. I’m just unimpressed. My soul died a little when both Haeng-ah and Ri-hwan cried at the end of episode 10. Such angst!
* to be fair, I’ve only seen History of a Salaryman, Birth of a Beauty, and this.
And I’m still watching this.
For a romantic comedy (lies), it’s sad. And not in melo way, but more like… ouch. Hah.
You can see the love in Hiro’s eyes when she thinks about the old days and the night of her life (which I’m assuming is the night the then-dating couple became intimate, thx dinner party exposition). Then when she’s finally ready to confess her true feelings to Chouji/reciprocation be damned … he takes that as his cue to confess to delivery guy Tamotsu. 💔💔💔 That heartbreak though. I felt that!
Watching this drama in 1080p is…
(I’m really good at this updating once a month thing, huh?)
I feel like I get like this whenever I finish an exceptionally good drama — Misaeng being the most recent example — but A Wife’s Credentials (jTBC / 2012) is in my heart of hearts. On paper, a drama about a housewife trying to educate her son and falling in love with his handsome dentist sounds boring, but I assure you it is not! This show is definitely the best of the best, maybe even among the Top 5 of all the dramas I’ve ever watched. (Someday I’ll be brave enough to do a definitive ranking.) The opening chords of The Byrd’s “Turn! Turn! Turn!” get me all glubbed up and it’s only been a week.
This post is sponsored by Tae-oh’s Jeep Rubicon (harbinger of doom), and my endless tears.
(more…)Quick thoughts before I head to work.

I started A Wife’s Credentials on my flight home today and it is safe to say I was captivated by the first two episodes. There wasn’t anything remarkable about Warm & Cozy for me to recognize Lee Sung-jae but daaaaaaang he really burns it up with Kim Hee-ae.
Subject matter was a surprise to me – I went into it for the Ahn Pan-seok/Jung Sung-joo/Kim Hee-ae combo, but it’s very mature and emotionally “raw”. Feeling feelings kind of stuff. It’s also interesting to see the societal/personal fallout AFTER a speedy/emotionally consuming affair… things happened so quickly (not TOO quick) and I’m still just on episode 7. Definitely a must watch.
(Getting back into the swing of watching dramas, but probably won’t get too serious until after early November.)
Here are my top songs for absolutely no reason other than the fact that I’ve been on a SHINee kick for a few months and Jonghyun just dropped his second solo album. 🙏
Listen to it here.
Maybe I was didn’t remember too much about I saw in Answer Me 1997, and High School King of Savvy is one of those dramas I’ll love despite having not finished, but is …… Seo In-guk is not as good as I remember him being? I want to believe he’s phoning it in here, but those SERIOUS! ACTING! EMOTION! ANGER! faces are… hmm.
Case in point, episode 14 (and the parts of 15 I’m watching now) :/ :/ :/
