    classical dramas

I’m more of a jazz person, but there a few dramas who made good use of classical pieces that left big impressions on me and sparked vivid memories of key moments. I kid you not, Mambo was the moment that made me sit up and pay attention to the sweet cherub that is Park Bogum, haha. I was like, “ooh, slay a bit!” Here are some select favorites:

    1. Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, B. 178: IV. Allegro con fuoco (Antonín Dvořák) (Cantabile Tomorrow)
    2. Dance at the Gym: Mambo (Leonard Bernstein) (Cantabile Tomorrow, very inspired)
    3. Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, Op.18: 2. Adagio sostenuto (Sergei Rachmaninoff) (Soredemo, Ikite Yuku)
    4. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43 (Sergei Rachmaninoff) (Secret Love Affair)
    5. Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: I. Poco sostenuto – Vivace (Ludwig van Beethoven) (Nodame Cantabile)

“When creatures that cannot live together with humans are ejected from human society, ‘well, that’s life’ is what we would say. We’d say that this must be a job done by someone.”

I haven’t had a drama make me feel this kind of melancholy (in a good way) since Misaeng; you feel it in the first scene when an animal control employee wakes up after having yet another nightmare about dogs speaking to him, and when a vet scolds her mother for feeding stray cats and contributing to her work. It was a good special and if you’re anything like me, you might shed some tears in the first 20 minutes or so. Unlike Misaeng, Kono Machi no Inochi ni peaked and didn’t go anywhere towards the end even though it has all the elements of a worthwhile drama. Still recommended though, especially for anyone who may want to see Kase Ryo and Toda Erika in a drama again.

And as the title suggests, this is my 200th drama!! 🎉 I should do something to celebrate, lol.

    TOTAL DRAMAS WATCHED: 21

I just barely passed this amount in last year’s fall roundup, and that was in November! What can I say, weekend marathons are my specialty. Now onto the state of things…

    Summer ’16, Part 2

As some of you may have seen from my Twitter, I was at PAX this past weekend! Spoiler: it was awesome. I was only away for 3 days, but I was surprised by how many drama episodes I was able to squeeze in…

LOL I love these gossiping surgeons. They don’t have much to do, but they bring light to this drama. #THANKFUL

    Flashback Friday #1

A twitter friend shared this meme and I decided to do it!

    1. What was your first song?
Definitely BoA’s “Number One”! Because I listened to a lot of Japanese music (including BoA’s stuff) I remember hearing the song for the first time and thinking, “I cannot make any sense of this language at allllllll”. How times have changed! I didn’t listen to any kpop after that (this was 2003 or so), but I gained interest again after listening to Lee Hyori, Epik High, and Clazziquai around 2005.

    2. How did you discover kpop?
I had a lot of Korean friends in high school, very thankful to them for hooking it up (haha). 🙏

    Now Playing #1

Given how slowly and how long it takes me to play games (ahem, Persona 4 — let me just say I’m at the HEAVEN stage now and I am very scared for what’s about to happen next), I don’t know how often I’ll make posts like this, but here’s what I’ve been playing! (Or was, I beat them already. Hah)

    the wonderful world of webtoons

As someone who was once (still is?) a big manga fan, it’s no surprise I love webtoons! They’re really fun to read and a great way to kill time on the subway, waiting in line at COSTCO, etc. Install LINE Webtoon on your phone and let the magic happen. Here are some I’ve read:

    10th Dimension Boys by Cutbu
My first webtoon, forever in my heart of hearts, and most deserving of a live-action adaptation. I’d love to see how those fart/poop jokes translate on screen, to be honest. But in all seriousness, it is GR8GR9.
