It’s hard for me to explain why I didn’t watch as many dramas last year, but I certainly started a ton and with all this extra time (lol) I’m finally getting around to finishing them just now. I also kind of, sort of, started watching anime again. The only drama that really captured my heart was Rescue Me 2. Rescue Me was already so good, but this season — if you can even call it that, the only thing it has in common is “religious” cults and Jo Jae-yoon — had levels.

With less than 4 months left in the year (lolllll), so far I’m on track to finish more than 10 dramas this year so… that’s something. Watch this space for more updates 🤪

  • SPRING ’19

    SPRING ’19

This will be pretty brief, as I haven’t been watching a lot of dramas lately and I thought it would be a bit much to not have anything for two straight seasons. (Really gotta start writing about dramas as I watch them…) But I’ve been really into k-dramas lately, though!

Slight spoilers for Misty. Other dramas mentioned: The Banker, dele, Cold Case 2, Trap, Touch Your Heart, Should We Kiss First.

    SKY Castle (fin.) + recommendations

Now, I said I would focus solely on playing Kingdom Hearts 3 these past few weeks… but that didn’t happen. You know what happened? SKY Castle. I think I mentioned a month ago that I wanted to wait until it was finished before diving in, and it did so… I couldn’t help myself! Over the span of a day (!), one episode turned into ten before I realized I’d lost my damn mind and needed to be productive lmao.

  • Chungha, “벌써 12시”

Because I don’t follow idol music anymore (or is she technically one? let’s just say idol groups), I wasn’t aware of I.O.I. or Chungha until I heard Wow Thing, featuring Seulgi, SinB, and Soyeon — A COLLABORATION FROM HEAVEN, BTW. I was like, “who is this beautiful talented girl?!” And I was shocked to find out she was a soloist because no one is ever strictly a soloist anymore. Sure, artists have broken away from their groups and found solo success (Lee Hyori being the biggest example I can think of) and Chungha initially made her debut in a project group. But so many of her peers in that group went on to join groups with their original labels to varying amounts of success. Putting her back in a group would have been a waste of her talent, so her agency was wise to let her shine on her own.

Anyway — stumbled upon her new single by chance last night and I love it! The choreography and the song feel so classic and she looks STUNNING in pants. The scenes in black & white at the staircase… wowowow.

  • the catch up (part two)

    the catch up (part two)

First order of business: Merry Christmas. 🎄🎁✨

Second order of business: with only six days left in the year, I have a lot of dramas to catch up on! Two of my priorities at the moment are finishing Misty and The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (about halfway through both), but my queue has grown longer since finishing my last drama in… August? September? Who knows anymore!

And to make things worse, Kingdom Hearts 3 is dropping in approximately a month and some days which means NO DRAMAS UNTIL I FINISH THAT GAME. I refuse lmao. So I’ve got a lot of work to do!

My list below the jump — wish me luck, lol.

    12/9/1998

I’m sure it’s been written to death at this point, but twenty years ago today Utada Hikaru made her debut with Automatic / Time Will Tell! I was already listening to j-pop around that time, but like a lot of people I found out about her through Kingdom Hearts. Up to that point I thought the concept of KH was the wackest thing ever (my, how times have changed 🙄), until I heard the song on a commercial. It was actually pretty good, and that would not be the first time I would be suckered into buying a game because of the theme song (see: Final Fantasy X-2), haha

I wrote some words about my 20 favorite songs! This is NOT a complete list, simply because I could honestly list the entire Deep River album, plus or minus a few songs and call it a night 🙃 anywayyyy

    Autumn ’18

I have been extremely busy of late – I pride myself on making room for just ONE drama, but I haven’t even been able to do that lately. I finished Life just a few short weeks ago and… that was it. It doesn’t help that nothing I’m interested in watching is available legally/subbed either. Thems the breaks.

But we’re going to switch things up a little bit! Fall started, and it’s just around the time that I’d post a what-I’m-watching for the season anyway. Since I can’t do that, I will share a bunch of dramas I’m really interested in watching – plus some words on Life because, duh. (more…)
