  • “My favorite Korean movie is F4.”

    f4
A girl I tutor not only revealed to me that she watches Korean dramas, but she also precisely summarized her favorite one (“F4”) for me. I mean — “at the end she fell in love with the boy in the curly hair even though she like[s] the red hair boy.” That accuracy…

Kids are getting started on the drama game early these days.

  • Don’t think… max out social links!

“Persona!” If you couldn’t tell by my tweets, I gave the game another crack after trying and failing to beat Shadow Mitsuo who, as far as I’m concerned, is an irrelevant flop. That boss battle gave me so much grief and I’m happy to see him gone — bye, Mitsuo! Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

A huge chunk of why I love this game is because of the ability to form bonds with others that affect what they’ll do for you in battle (e.g. “Yosuke will now die for you!”) and because my friends ingrained in me the habit of getting through dungeons quickly, I had ample time to relax. Soon realized I was being far too complacent about my progress in the game. There’s obviously a ticking calendar in this game, which means there will obviously be a point in which I can no longer level up my social links (side quests who??). For all I know this whole adventure could end in October, and here I am just loafing around in early September with only three social links maxed out. None of which are in the Investigation Team. CATCH ME WHEN I’M INEVITABLY FLOPPING IN THE FINAL BATTLE BECAUSE I HAVE NO MEANINGFUL FRIENDSHIPS

I had to be careful at this point, and I had to out-calendar the calendar! Cue: your girl taking a good hour and a half to figure out how to make color-coded and separate calendars for each character link. YES.

    Day view.

I plan on removing the dates for characters whose social links I’ve maxed out, but I have a lot of work to do. I barely just saw Naoto on the Midnight Channel, and if Shadow Mitsuo’s difficulty was any indication of how much harder this game is going to be… womp womp womp.

  • So triforce. Much gold. Wow.

In case you couldn’t already tell by some of my very vague tweets, I took the plunge and got a Nintendo 3DS XL. I originally intended to get a black/black 3DS (breaking my tradition of getting pink Nintendo handhelds), but how can you resist the matte gold/black?!

I’m still getting used to the controls and the weight (SO HEAVY), but the 3D is DAZZLING. Seriously. I mean… how you doin’ that? I do keep it off the majority of the time to save my eyes and conserve battery, though. And speaking of which, the battery life is a little disappointing considering how magical the DS Lite was in that regard, but not surprising since it comes with so much STUFF. My friends asked me what I did the first night I got it and I really didn’t have an answer for them because all I was doing was playing with the settings, lolz

So far I’m only playing “Pokemon Y” —X has the cooler Mononoke-esque legendary, but I took one for the team— because no one told me that 3DS games were so expensive, hahah. Thankfully I received a downloadable code for “Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds” as a part of the overall bundle to keep me busy for a while.

  • 安堂ロイド〜A.I. knows LOVE?〜, an overview.

    andolloyd-01
Despite the great forces behind it (Nishiogi Yumie, Hideaki Anno—yes, that one), my expectations for Ando Lloyd were low, low, low. I had also just come off of finishing PRIDE, which makes me bitter and wary all at the same time. Talk about making yourself hard to love…

    Slight spoilers for Episode 1.

  • Summer ’13 (fin.)

    fin-00

Woah! This felt like the longest summer season ever. I’ve been watching dramas quite steadily every week, but it was like things went on and on and only now does it feel like things are finally coming to an end. The wait before the autumn season is going to be unbearable.

Spoilers for Two Weeks, Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo, Master’s Sun, and a handful of other dramas. (Tread lightly.)

It’s still upwards of 100°F here, so I guess I can still talk about the dramas I’m checking out this summer! Even though I was doing a lot of sampling, it looks like I’ll be sticking around to watch… everything. Haha.

  • Double Tone, an overview.

Double Tone (NHK) does a lot of overhead shots of various “work spaces”. I’m thinking it’s stylistic (Instagram culture?!), but it’s done so frequently that I wonder if there’s some kind of deeper significance.

I’m mostly caught up with Double Tone, and the first episode blew my mind a little bit! It’s like a simpler 49 Days with a seemingly sinister mystery, but the protagonists are privy to the fact that they are occupying each others’ dreams from the beginning.

Spoilery question after the jump! Proceed with caution.

    Spring Sampler (2013)

Rather than writing about the dramas I’m seriously committing to, I’m previewing episodes of everything ever basically. You might also call this wanton “LET’S TRY THIS” foolishness. I still have a grip of dramas from last season to finish, but eh.
