Winter ’17, Part 1

New year, new dramas? Not quite…

There were a bunch of dramas I wanted to watch last year but didn’t actually get around to watching. So for most of this month, I’ve challenged myself to only watching dramas I missed out on. The “challenge” wasn’t all that difficult considering that there isn’t a lot to watch right now. Subs are trickling in and the recent batch of kdramas seems mostly unimpressive, LOL.

Completed

Yuusha Yoshihiko to Michibikareshi 7-nin / I think when I last wrote about it I was at episode 3, but I caught up and it just kept getting better! I’m not sure it’ll be back for a fourth season (ending was kind of ambiguous), but if this is the end I’m glad it went out on a high note.

Furenaba Ochin / Not the most disappointing drama I’ve watched, but not one I’d recommend any time soon. While the plot itself is so tired (housewives and affairs), the ending made me WTF. In a bad way. With my entire body and soul. It was just so unnecessary, like the amount of time I spent watching this drama. Shoutout to Hasegawa Kyoko’s new lips tho.

Juken no Cinderella / Thought process while watching this drama: “AM I SENSITIVE? WHY AM I WIPING AWAY TEARS?” in all seriousness, I was surprised! It was cute and heartwarming. This was also one of those dramas where I felt like the writing did a lot of the work — I wasn’t disappointed by Koizumi Kotaro or anything, but anyone else could’ve played Igarashi Toru and I would have been moved. The story is probably very similar for people who watched Dragon Zakura (Abe Hiroshi is 🔝), but Juken no Cinderella really had some nuggets of goodness that kept it from being a run-of-the-mill, mediocre drama. I also found Kawaguchi Haruna to be very charming in this and I look forward to seeing where her career goes once she fully moves away from the high school genre.

Sennyuu Keiji Idol Deka Dance / AH CRAP I almost forgot this one. Who knew Nakamura Aoi’s best work would be in a midnight drama about a bunch of misfits turned investigators turned idols? Not me!!! It definitely got so much better after the first 2 episodes.

Considering

Next up is Unmei ni, Nita Koi. Sometimes I wonder what possesses me to watch Saito Takumi dramas. Even more confusing is that I’m going back to a Kitagawa Eriko drama after Sunao ni Narenakute, which… let’s just say I feel very strongly about that drama. But I’m doin’ it!

Also on the list: Dear My Friends, Naomi to Kanako, maybe Doctor X 4 (really dragging my feet on this one), Otoko Meshi, maybe more. Next month I’m challenging myself to another type of drama so ~stay tuned~
