Day 4: Recently Finished

This was a drama rife with problems from the jump. Plagiarism aside, my first issue with IOIL was Jo In-sung’s face. Is that irrational? Some might say yes… either way I was gonna have to get used to it real quick because I’d be seeing it up close very often.

Somehow I got sucked in by this angelic face and the chilling truth behind it. Then it was something about the way Hae-soo and Jae-yeol looked and interacted with one another when they weren’t being ridiculous — such cute, many chemistry, wow. Even when this show got really tryhard, annoying and so effing hipster (THE MUSIC*, Jae-yeol’s penchant for Birks and #normcore), I was taken by its honesty. And despite my misgivings about Jae-yeol’s golden “D” solving her problems LIKE THAT and the focus on random medical cases when we could have spent more time on story, it’s still a drama I’d recommend with reservation. It’s okay, it’s not perfect!

* I’d say the soundtrack was only 75% terrible. There were moments where Hero struck just the right tone, and Davichi’s contribution was absolutely stunning. STILL, I will be happy to never hear this soundtrack again!

(More) Reasons to Watch: Gong Hyo-jin times ONE MILLION, Do Kyung-soo (I’m not eating my words when it comes to idol actors, but homie was super duper cute and actually quite decent in his role), Jo In-sungSHHHHH, Sung Dong-il.
Honorable Mention: Well, “Fated to Love You” (MBC / 2014) was one of the more recent dramas I’ve finished, but the trajectory was anything but honorable. First 8 or so episodes were magical/lovely/wow, then noble idiocy settled in. Such a bummer!

I love this blog post series, and I can’t wait to finish Glorious Day (I’m going suuuper slow) so I can watch some of these new-fangled ones.

I’m so behind on who’s who in K-drama land.

Aw, I think that’s an excellent one to start with. I think once you power through a weekend drama at least once (especially one that’s light on makjang) or a longer sageuk, anything else is easy to watch!

I’ve actually watched more j-dramas than k-dramas, so I’m slowly getting to know bodies of work (tiring, but fun)
