First Impressions (Winter 2013).

winter2013

It’s been a struggle to keep up this season, but it’s more from my laziness than anything. That said, I still managed to start two Korean dramas (which I will be discussing soon because whoooooaaaaa). Priorities? Anyway, check out what I’m watching this season after the jump!

Nakuna, Hara-chan
I can tell it’s going to be a drama with a whole lot of heart and warmth. I watched the first episode with Japanese subtitles (it was a nice language learning experience) and honestly, you don’t even need them. It’s Nagase Tomoya! Guaranteed hilarity. And how cute is the image up above? I think it says everything about what you can expect to witness.

Karamazov no Kyoudai
I only watched the first episode out of boredom, and may reconsider marathoning the rest of the episodes sometime later. That said… it’s RIDICULOUS. A soap opera of the highest caliber. Also, the Karamazov compound looks familiar. Very familiar. They might even be using the same set from some summertime ikemen drama

Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi
There are so many small touches that make this late night drama great. Gyoten (Matsuda Ryuhei) is quiet, but lackadaisical and clever in the best way. There is just something I really like about the fact that Tada (Eita) owns a broken iPhone 3G. He doesn’t look like the kind of guy who would own a top of the line smartphone, nor does he have the kind of job that would allow him to afford one. Sometimes I’ll watch something and it’s like, “would a contract work really be able to afford two different pairs of Louboutin heels?” It’s a minor complaint, but I actually appreciate those things a lot. Super good.

Share House no Koibito
Oddly enough, I really like the soundtrack for Share House no Koibito (at least the orchestral pieces). I went “ooooh, that’s good” when I heard the OP by ayaka; if this show can be as uplifting and robust as this song, I’ll be a happy camper! And Mizukawa Asami has always been in supporting character roles, so I’m really happy to see her in a leading role this time around!

Biggest mystery: whether Tappei (Oizumi Yo) is actually an alien, or just weird. But I don’t hate it??? Oizumi Yo makes it work.

Shotenin Michiru no Mi no Uebanashi
I don’t want to say it’s “middling”, but… I don’t remember too much about it since I watched it back in late January, oop. I know that I did like it, though. I remember thinking “oh wow I wonder if it’s awkward since Emoto Tasuku and Ando Sakura are married, but Toda Erika’s character is dating his (but cheating with another married fellow) and she’s friends with hers.” I think Shotenin Michiru will be juicy in a good way. I’m all about dat drama.

Saikou no Rikon
The problems of starting dramas and falling a month behind, sigh. I DON’T KNOW ANYMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE i just wanted to make this post This was actually the drama I looked forward to the most, but I don’t think I’ve entered “gosh, I absolutely love this!” territory quite yet.

Strawberry Night ~After the Invisible Rain~
One of two Takeuchi Yuko SPs this season! From what I watched, the special consists of various stories with one or two members of Himekawa’s team in each. I prefer their group dynamic (e.g. working together) rather than anything they do individually, so I’m not sure I’ll be all that interested in watching it fully. Who knows…

    There’s a Strawberry Night SP?!

I did want to watch more shows but I’ve only been watching Rikon… But I’ve been enjoying it heaps! I think it’s because it’s such a train wreck and I’ve been forcing my bf to watch it with me and it scares him. Good stuff 8D

Yes, I was surprised when I found out. There are also these cute little promotional shorts that accompany the movie (!) as well… so much Strawberry Night to handle!

Hahaha! You should try watching Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi as well! It’s relatively short to digest (only thirty minute episodes), and the stories are so so good.
