The fall season has officially begun! Yessss!
Meiko Nogami (Miho Kanno) was a popular pet beauty expert, but at the age of 19 she was imprisoned falsely for the murders of her brother-in-law and nephew. 12 years later she is finally released from prison.
Meiko Nogami now brings unhappiness to those around her as she searches for the truth behind the murders. She reveals false accusations, shakes the foundations of their minds and eventually brings them to commit suicide as Meiko seeks out revenge.
A former detective (Hiroshi Tamaki), who had a bright future before accidentally causing the death of a fellow detective, crosses paths with Meiko. He senses something dangerous about the woman but also feels an attraction to her…
So! I like the story (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially if she’s not guilty and has a beastly dog named Leon at her arsenal) and the leads. It’s nice to see Kanno Miho being so… villainous since she was practically harmless in Hataraki Man. Tamaki Hiroshi is just! so! gosh! darn! angry. He’s whipping that jacket back and forth like nobody’s business. I’ve seen this kind of character (the “guarded” guy) in a lot of dramas and it honestly makes me roll my eyes, but I like him and I hope he doesn’t over do it.
This drama is very nice to look at. Everything looks fantastic and appropriate given the dark themes.
What’s also nice to look at is this guy:
Mikami Kensei was one of Amami Yuki’s character’s sons in GOLD, and he seems to have grown exponentially more attractive since that time…
The thing I’m most excited about is how Meiko and Takuro’s relationship will develop. It is already clear that he’s interested in her — the not-so-subtle stare said it all, buddy:
Other notes:
– I feel like this is yet another drama where the lead cop has a dark past/has fallen from grace/is a reject of some sort.
– Also, corrupt superiors ahoy. Again, it’s nothing new (see: BOSS). Maybe I’m so obsessed with Phoenix Wright at the moment that I’ve become hyper aware when it comes to cop/detective genres!
Overall, it was a very good first episode. I hope that as we get farther into the series, the quality of the episodes will increase and it’ll become a good thriller mixed in with some cray-cray/conflict of interests romance.
